Designer Courtney Russell Brings the Heat

Born in Kingston, Jamaica born, New York City, designer Courtney Russel was destined to become a style maverick. After studying at the prestigious Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, Russell became a tailor’s assistant, doing alterations, creating wedding gowns, bridesmaid’s dresses, prom dresses and tuxedos. He says, of the experience, “Working with an outstanding tailor enabled me to fine tune my ability in sewing all types of fabrics.” He became inspired to create his own clothing line in 2002.

Blending lush, tropical flair with cutting edge presentation, Russell manages to combine island influence with big city sophistication. His designs, which are inspired by vintage styles and are made for “people with high style”, are a both colorful and eclectic. But one need not be a member of an exclusive social set to wear Russell’s designs. “My designs are for anyone who enjoys the best in life.”
